On a dreary, rainy/snowy day in late February 2010, I decided to drive around north and south of Albany, since I didn't have anything better to do. My first goal was to follow the D&H north from Green Island up to Mechanicville. I was hoping to catch a train on this line, as I've never actually seen on running, though I hear them all the time from my house.

Just south of downtown Mechanicville, I did see a CP freight heading south, so I turned around and tried to chase it. I caught it first at a crossing I'd been to probably 7 or 8 years ago, but never remembered where it actually was. Apparently this was Washington Ave in Waterford.

I attempted to catch it again at the bridge over the Mohawk River, but due to parking too far from the Washington Ave crossing and traffic, got there about a minute too late.

I then headed south as fast as I could to try to beat it to the D&H shop complex in Watervliet, but again, got there just too late. I did finally catch it at Tivoli St in Albany, then again under I-787 as it was entering Kenwood Yard.

I then proceeded south to see what was going on on the River Line, but decided to turn around when I saw the tail end of a train leaving Selkirk heading north up to Kenwood, again, a line I'd never actually seen operating. Not being terribly familiar with the line, I made some poor navigational decisions, and didn't end up getting in front of the train until the entrance to the Port of Albany, just south of Kenwood Yard.
